Week 10 Thing # 24
Well, I'm done. There were definitely some things I would never have used but it is good to have a little background knowledge should our patrons require assistance. I think I would have preferred to learn this things in a group setting as I don't like bothering my colleagues for help.
Week 10 Thing # 23
I love NetLibrary. My husband bought an MP3 but it is not compatible. I will go out and get one that is and plan on downloading lots of books. Right now I listen to books on CD on a Walkman and it totally embarasses my children. I will miss that!
Week 10 Thing # 21 YouTube
I chose the Angry Librarian video - very funny - love the spacy girl's charades:

I also spent a lot of time looking at cute Black lab puppy dieos of course. This site is a fun way to waste a whole lot of time.
I do think YouTube would be a great way to introduce our library to the world - similar to the Calgary public Library.

Week 9 Thing #20
2.0 Wiki is another great way to collaborate ideas on specific subjects. It was like we were all sitting in the staff lounge discussing our holidays.

Week 9 Thing # 19
I can definiely see pros and cons to Wiki. It is great as a collaborative tool but its seems there is not much control. Again, it is a good tool to create lists and such. It seem to be just another way in a long list of ways to do the same thing. A little overwhelming.

Week 7 THing # 17
"Library2.0 controls technolust This librarian does not buy technology for the sake of technology. “Techno-worship” does not exist here. Without a firm foundation in the mission and goals of the institution, new technologies are not implemented for the sake of coolness and status. Technology is put to the test: Does it meet the users need in a new or improved way? Does it create a useful service for putting users together with the information and experience they seek? These are some of the questions this librarian asks when planning for technology. This librarian creates and nurtures a living, breathing technology plan."
I like these statements made by Michael Stevens. Is there evidence it meets the users needs? I understand about the inevitability of change but is it too much too soon?
